Wood Veneer Edge Band Sheet Slitting Blades
Use this guide only when supplied real-wood veneer edgeband arrives as a roll and is divided into narrower continuous strips. First identify the veneer face, grain direction, backing or adhesive layer, roll direction and accepted strip widths. This is not slitting a wide decorative veneer panel or applying edgeband to furniture.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied workpiece and state
Confirm whether the supplied stock is real-wood veneer edgeband, its backing or adhesive construction, and whether it arrives as a roll or cut lengths. These guides concern conversion of supplied stock only; they do not cover applying edgeband to a panel or trimming the edge of a finished cabinet panel. REHAU lists real-wood veneer edgeband as a product family, but that example does not define every supplier construction or any MEIRENTE tool specification.
Installed process checkpoint
Mark the retained face and strip direction. Record unwind tension, web guiding, support, installed slitting arrangement, spacer or holder dimensions, and how each narrow strip is rewound or collected.
Output and inspection stage
Measure strip width at the agreed positions and inspect the retained decorative edge, backing bond and roll condition separately; record whether a defect begins at the cut or during rewind.
Roll Slitting process boundary
Confirm that the actual customer operation matches this process name and approved drawing before evaluating a replacement tool.
Roll Slitting setup checkpoint
Record product direction, retained material or portion, machine interface and downstream handling before the controlled trial.
Roll Slitting acceptance checkpoint
Use the customer-approved dimensional and visible-defect limits; compare labelled samples from the same product state and line settings.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure strip width and parallelism at the agreed web positions
- Inspect the retained veneer face and backing edge for splinter, lift, crush or adhesive exposure
- Check strip tracking, roll telescoping and blocking separately from cut-edge defects
- Repeat the inspection on labelled samples after the agreed rewind and handling interval
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Strip width drifts across the roll
Compare guide position, shaft runout, spacer stack, tension and roll alignment at the same marked web positions.
The veneer face splinters along the grain
Mark grain direction and face, then compare accepted and rejected edges at identical support and feed settings.
Backing or adhesive lifts at the cut edge
Inspect the actual backing construction, tool exit, support and peel direction; do not infer a bond defect from the veneer face alone.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing rotary shear slitting set | Consider only when the current machine is designed for continuous roll slitting of this construction. | Confirm the installed shaft, holder, overlap or clearance, web path and labelled retained-edge samples. |
| Existing score slitting arrangement | Consider only if the machine, counter-surface and supplied backing are designed for that contact mode. | Confirm penetration control, support and the face/back result on the actual material; do not assume score cutting suits all veneer edgebands. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.
- Supplier and product designation for the real-wood edgeband
- Veneer species or face, grain direction, thickness and backing/adhesive construction
- Roll width, diameter, core, unwind direction and required strip widths
- Machine model, slitting motion, shaft/holder drawing and current tool dimensions
- Web speed, tension, guiding, support and rewind conditions
- Labelled accepted and rejected strip-edge and backing samples
- Width, visible-face, bond-edge and roll-quality acceptance limits
- Inspection point, trial quantity and downstream use of each strip

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a knife form be selected from the workpiece name alone?
No. Confirm the supplied state or construction, actual cutting motion, installed machine interface, current tool and accepted/rejected samples.
Is this guide for trimming edgeband already applied to a panel?
No. It covers only the conversion of supplied roll stock; panel-edge trimming is a separate machine operation.
Can the tool be selected from veneer species alone?
No. Confirm backing, thickness, grain direction, machine interface and accepted samples together.

These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim.
