Wood Veneer Edge Band Edge Trimming Blades
This operation removes a controlled longitudinal margin from supplied veneer edgeband stock. Define which side is retained, the trim allowance, grain direction and backing before trial. A narrow offcut may break while the kept edge passes, so waste continuity must not replace retained-edge inspection.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied workpiece and state
Confirm whether the supplied stock is real-wood veneer edgeband, its backing or adhesive construction, and whether it arrives as a roll or cut lengths. These guides concern conversion of supplied stock only; they do not cover applying edgeband to a panel or trimming the edge of a finished cabinet panel. REHAU lists real-wood veneer edgeband as a product family, but that example does not define every supplier construction or any MEIRENTE tool specification.
Installed process checkpoint
Mark the retained side and material direction. Record incoming-edge wander, datum, trim width, support, existing edge-trim arrangement and the route of the removed ribbon.
Output and inspection stage
Measure final width from the approved datum and inspect the retained face/back edge independently of offcut shape or breakage.
Edge Trimming process boundary
Confirm that the actual customer operation matches this process name and approved drawing before evaluating a replacement tool.
Edge Trimming setup checkpoint
Record product direction, retained material or portion, machine interface and downstream handling before the controlled trial.
Edge Trimming acceptance checkpoint
Use the customer-approved dimensional and visible-defect limits; compare labelled samples from the same product state and line settings.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure retained strip width at the agreed positions from a named datum
- Inspect the retained face and backing edge for check, split, chip, crush or lift
- Record offcut breaks, wrapping and collection separately from retained-edge defects
- Reinspect labelled strips after the agreed rewinding or handling interval
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Final strip width changes while the retained edge looks similar
Separate incoming-edge wander, guide movement, tension and the true trim datum.
A check runs from the retained edge along the grain
Compare local grain runout, support, restraint and the tool exit point on labelled samples.
The narrow offcut breaks or winds around the station
Review trim width, backing, offcut clearance and extraction/collection; do not classify this alone as a retained-edge failure.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.
- Measure retained strip width at the agreed positions from a named datum
- Inspect the retained face and backing edge for check, split, chip, crush or lift

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing supported longitudinal trimming set | Consider only when the installed station controls the retained-side datum and supports this stock. | Verify original tool, holder, counter-surface, trim width and kept-edge samples. |
| Existing guided edge-trimming arrangement | Consider only where the guide and restraint suit the supplied roll or strip format. | Verify material tracking, retained-side contact and offcut clearance through the full run. |

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a knife form be selected from the workpiece name alone?
No. Confirm the supplied state or construction, actual cutting motion, installed machine interface, current tool and accepted/rejected samples.
Must the removed ribbon remain continuous?
Not unless the process specification requires it. Assess offcut handling separately from the retained edge.
Does this mean trimming applied edgeband from a board?
No. This page concerns longitudinal trimming of supplied edgeband stock, not a panel edge-bander’s finishing station.

These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim.
