Wood Veneer Edge Band Profile Cutting Blades
Profile cutting is relevant only if the customer actually converts supplied veneer edgeband stock to a non-straight outline on an existing station. Confirm the drawing, retained part, grain direction, backing and whether the job is repetitive. Do not treat ordinary application of straight edgeband to a panel as profile cutting.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied workpiece and state
Confirm whether the supplied stock is real-wood veneer edgeband, its backing or adhesive construction, and whether it arrives as a roll or cut lengths. These guides concern conversion of supplied stock only; they do not cover applying edgeband to a panel or trimming the edge of a finished cabinet panel. REHAU lists real-wood veneer edgeband as a product family, but that example does not define every supplier construction or any MEIRENTE tool specification.
Installed process checkpoint
Use the approved profile drawing and mark the retained face and grain direction. Record fixture datum, registration, support, tool path or die interface, and how scrap is separated from the retained shape.
Output and inspection stage
Compare the finished contour to the approved drawing at named datums; inspect inside corners, grain crossings, backing separation and any damage caused during part release.
Profile Cutting process boundary
Confirm that the actual customer operation matches this process name and approved drawing before evaluating a replacement tool.
Profile Cutting setup checkpoint
Record product direction, retained material or portion, machine interface and downstream handling before the controlled trial.
Profile Cutting acceptance checkpoint
Use the customer-approved dimensional and visible-defect limits; compare labelled samples from the same product state and line settings.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure the retained outline and datum-to-feature positions against the approved drawing
- Inspect inside/outside corners and grain-crossing edges for split, chip, lift or crush
- Record registration error separately from tool-related edge defects
- Inspect the released part and remaining scrap after the normal removal step
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
The contour shifts although the blank is correctly located
Check fixture datum, feed registration, stock movement and the actual tool path against the approved drawing.
A corner splits or lifts along the grain
Compare corner radius, grain direction, support and tool entry/exit on labelled accepted and rejected parts.
Waste bridges the profile or pulls the retained edge
Inspect cut completion, backing construction, relief and scrap removal path separately from retained-part geometry.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.
- Measure the retained outline and datum-to-feature positions against the approved drawing

- Record registration error separately from tool-related edge defects

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing matched profile die or tool | Consider only when the approved outline and installed machine use a corresponding profile tool. | Confirm drawing revision, interface, clearance, retained part and samples around critical corners. |
| Existing guided contour-cutting arrangement | Consider only where a documented fixture and machine control the path on the supplied stock. | Confirm path repeatability, support, backing release and the complete retained edge; do not infer compatibility from a drawing alone. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.
- Supplier, edgeband construction, face, backing and thickness
- Grain direction and any required face orientation
- Approved drawing revision, datums, profile and critical corners
- Existing station, fixture, tool interface and motion drawings
- Current tool dimensions and labelled used component if available
- Feed, support, registration and scrap-release method
- Accepted and rejected parts showing corner and retained-edge limits
- Inspection method, trial quantity and downstream application

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a knife form be selected from the workpiece name alone?
No. Confirm the supplied state or construction, actual cutting motion, installed machine interface, current tool and accepted/rejected samples.
Is profile cutting a standard step in applying edgeband?
Not necessarily. Use this guide only when the supplied stock itself is profile-cut on a documented conversion station.
Can the profile be judged from its outline alone?
No. Confirm datums, grain direction, face, backing, retained-part definition and release method.
Public references and scope
These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim. Confirm the actual grade, machine setup and required cut with a drawing or sample.
