Aerogel Insulation Blanket Edge Trimming Blades
Edge trimming removes a narrow strip while preserving a marked blanket edge. Identify the kept side, reinforcement and any facing before the trial. A fragmented offcut and a sound retained edge are different findings; judge retained width and edge quality separately from waste collection.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Actual supplied workpiece
Confirm the supplied aerogel-blanket maker, grade, reinforcement, nominal and recovered thickness, roll orientation and any added facing. Aspen describes one flexible Pyrogel blanket; its construction and cutting advice cannot be assumed for every aerogel product.
Installed cutting setup
Record incoming-edge wander, trim allowance, kept-side support, holder and offcut collection.
Cut output and inspection stage
Measure the released retained width; inspect the kept edge, reinforcement and face after handling.
Edge Trimming process boundary
These pages address conversion of a supplied flexible blanket, not a rigid aerogel board, loose aerogel or a finished insulated assembly. Identify the actual layer stack before specifying a cut.
Edge Trimming setup checkpoint
Compare particulate release and blanket shape at the cutter and after handling under the supplier and site dust-control procedure.
Edge Trimming acceptance checkpoint
Approve a replacement only from the original blade, holder drawing and a controlled trial on the supplied grade.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure retained width at marked intervals after release
- Inspect the kept edge for reinforcement pull and loose material
- Record offcut fragmentation separately from retained-product defects
- Compare retained face after transfer with approved samples
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Offcut fragments while the kept edge is intact
Review trim width and collection route before changing blade contact.
Only the retained edge pulls reinforcement
Compare support and contact on the marked kept side.
Retained width changes along the roll
Separate incoming-edge position from trim-station drift.
flexible aerogel insulation blanket Edge Trimming Diagnostic
Separate material identity and support, blade contact, and post-cut handling before choosing a knife form.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.
- Measure retained width at marked intervals after release
- Inspect the kept edge for reinforcement pull and loose material
- Record offcut fragmentation separately from retained-product defects
- Compare retained face after transfer with approved samples
Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Supported guided edge knife | Only after matching holder and blanket support. | Confirm kept-side contact and sample edge. |
| Existing shear trim pair | Only if the actual station supports this thickness and offcut route. | Confirm pair geometry and retained-edge sample. |
Information to Send for Technical Review

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a knife be selected from the term flexible aerogel insulation blanket alone?
No. Confirm the exact supplied grade, installed equipment, original tool and agreed trial limits.
Must the offcut form a continuous ribbon?
No. Inspect the retained blanket to its own criteria.
Why mark the kept side?
It fixes one datum for setup and acceptance.
