XLPE Cable Insulation Length Cutting Blades
Use length cutting when the supplied object is an insulated conductor or documented cable assembly cut to specified lengths. List every conductor and surrounding layer; do not infer that the blade may score, strip or damage them.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied material and process stage
Define the actual cutting object and manufacturing stage. Confirm whether it is an insulation-only extruded tube or profile, an insulated conductor, or a finished cable assembly with semiconductive screens, shield, armour or jacket. Record crosslinking state, wall geometry, conductor and layer stack, extrusion direction, temperature, support and the layers that may or may not be cut. NRC examples show XLPE as cable insulation within multi-layer cable constructions; they do not define the customer cable or a MEIRENTE tool.
Installed process checkpoint
Record cable construction, conductor or strand direction, diameter and ovality, layer stack, curvature, feed datum, clamp, tension, blade motion, support and discharge.
Output and inspection stage
Measure relaxed length and end squareness; inspect insulation compression, tearing, conductor smear or strand disturbance, screen/shield damage and handling marks.
Length Cutting process boundary
Confirm that the supplied construction, actual machine operation and approved drawing match this process before reviewing a replacement tool.
Length Cutting setup checkpoint
Record material condition, protected zones, installed interface and downstream handling before a controlled trial.
Length Cutting acceptance checkpoint
Use customer-approved dimensions and observable defect limits on labelled samples from the same feed and machine settings.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure relaxed length from the approved cable datum
- Check end squareness and insulation deformation
- Inspect conductor, strands, screens, shields and jackets separately
- Record discharge bends or handling marks apart from cutting defects
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Length changes with cable curvature or feed slip
Compare straightening, clamp, encoder datum, tension and measurement condition.
Insulation tears while the conductor end deforms differently
Separate polymer support and blade action from conductor and strand response.
Shield, screen or jacket layers shift at the cut end
Map the full layer stack and bonding condition before altering the tool.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.
- Measure relaxed length from the approved cable datum
- Check end squareness and insulation deformation
- Inspect conductor, strands, screens, shields and jackets separately
- Record discharge bends or handling marks apart from cutting defects
Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing guillotine or reciprocating cable cutter | For a machine already designed around the documented cable assembly. | Confirm holder, clamp, support, stroke, counter-surface and clearing. |
| Existing rotary or orbital cutoff system | Only where the installed line controls that specific motion and layer contact. | Confirm path, depth, phase, conductor protection and guarding. |

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a blade form be selected from the term “XLPE cable insulation” alone?
No. Confirm the supplied construction, actual process stage, installed interface, current tool and accepted and rejected samples.
Does XLPE identify the whole cable construction?
No. Conductors, screens, shields, armour and jackets must be declared.
Can insulation appearance alone prove conductor acceptance?
No. The customer must define and perform the required conductor and electrical checks.

Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim.
