Silage Film Roll Slitting Blades
Use roll slitting when a parent roll becomes multiple narrower silage-film rolls. Identify stretch wrap versus cover sheet first because tack, elongation, layer construction and winding behaviour can differ.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied roll and construction
First identify whether the supplied product is stretch wrap for bales, a cover sheet for a pit or bunker, or another approved construction. Record layers, cling or tack side, pigmentation, gauge, stretch history, roll direction and barrier construction. FAO and extension sources distinguish wrapped bales from plastic-sheet sealing; those use examples do not define the customer film or a MEIRENTE tool.
Installed process checkpoint
Mark cling or treated side, roll direction and lane datum; record tension zones, nip state, tracking, cutter pitch, support and rewind layout.
Output and inspection stage
Measure every lane and inspect both edges, stretch whitening, blocking, telescoping, wrinkles and transfer to rollers or tools.
Roll Slitting process boundary
Confirm that the customer operation matches this process name, supplied roll state and approved drawing before evaluating a replacement tool.
Roll Slitting setup checkpoint
Record material direction, web conditioning, retained geometry, installed interface and downstream handling before a controlled trial.
Roll Slitting acceptance checkpoint
Use customer-approved dimensions and visible-defect limits on labelled samples from the same roll state and line settings.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure each lane from the approved datum through the sampled roll
- Inspect edges for neck-down, whitening, tear and fused material
- Record blocking, telescoping and roll hardness separately
- Repeat with the approved cling-side and tension orientation
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
The web narrows near a cutter
Compare local draw, tension, nip condition, support and knife entry.
A tacky surface transfers or blocks after slitting
Separate surface and winding effects from the edge itself; record which side contacts each component.
Slit rolls telescope or vary in hardness
Review rewind alignment and tension by lane before attributing the result to cutter pitch.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing shear or score-slitting set | For the documented support and winding arrangement. | Confirm shafts, holders, overlap or penetration, runout and nip state. |
| Existing razor or straight-edge slitter | Only when the actual film and machine safely support exposed-edge slitting. | Confirm entry, support, tack-side contact, debris control and guarding. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.
- Film type: bale stretch wrap, cover sheet or another documented silage-film construction
- Layer structure, gauge range, colour, cling or tack side and supplier datasheet
- Roll direction, stretch or relaxation history, surface contamination and conditioning at the cutter
- Target geometry, datum, tolerances and accepted edge, blocking or separation limits
- Existing machine, holder, shaft, anvil or counter-surface and interface drawings
- Web speed, tension, tracking, winding, nip state and trim or matrix handling
- Current tool plus labelled accepted and rejected samples from the actual roll
- Trial quantity, inspection timing, packing format and annual demand

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a blade form be selected from the agricultural material name alone?
No. Confirm the supplied construction, roll state, cutting motion, installed interface, current tool and accepted and rejected samples.
Can bale wrap and bunker-cover film use one setup by name alone?
No. Confirm the actual construction, surface and winding behaviour.
Does a tacky edge always mean a dull knife?
No. Surface formulation, contact path and winding conditions must also be reviewed.
Public references and scope
These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim. Confirm the actual grade, machine setup and required cut with a drawing or sample.
