Gypsum Faced Paper Rotary Die Cutting Blades
A rotary die is relevant only if an existing converter makes repeated shaped facing-paper pieces. Gypsum facing paper does not inherently require die cutting, a release liner or kiss cutting. Confirm the actual CAD shape and backing, then compare numbered retained pieces before and after waste removal.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Actual supplied workpiece
Confirm the actual facing-paper grade, basis weight, grain direction, surface treatment and supplied roll condition. USG describes paper used on gypsum panels; this conversion guide concerns the paper before it is bonded to a gypsum core, not cutting finished board.
Installed cutting setup
Record die pitch, register datum, anvil or verified backing, paper grain and waste route.
Cut output and inspection stage
Inspect critical features for bridges, outline drift, fiber pull and release creases.
Rotary Die Cutting process boundary
Do not infer a bituminous layer, reinforcement scrim, adhesive or release liner from the term gypsum facing paper. A coated grade must be identified from its supplier sheet.
Rotary Die Cutting setup checkpoint
Compare marked accepted and rejected samples from the same supplied grade, machine and inspection stage.
Rotary Die Cutting acceptance checkpoint
Approve knife geometry only from the original blade, holder drawing and controlled sample trial.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure contour and pitch on numbered repeats
- Count bridges at specified critical features
- Verify cut depth through identified layers
- Compare part shape before and after waste release
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
A paper bridge repeats at one corner
Compare local die contact, anvil support and grain orientation at the same repeat.
Contour drifts relative to a printed datum
Check web feed and die phase before changing the edge.
A sound part creases during scrap removal
Compare retained pieces before and after stripping.
A later material lot cuts differently
Compare actual grade, surface or facing, incoming condition and recovery before assigning the difference to edge fiber pull, dust or surface scuff.
gypsum-board facing paper Rotary Die Cutting Diagnostic
Check material identity, feed and support, blade contact and post-cut handling in that order; do not infer a standard replacement from the workpiece name.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.
- Measure contour and pitch on numbered repeats

- Compare part shape before and after waste release
Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Full-cut rotary profile die | Only where the installed die/anvil station separates the supplied paper. | Confirm die mounting and critical-feature samples. |
| Controlled partial-cut die | Only if an actual backing must remain by approved drawing. | Verify the backing and layer-by-layer depth; never infer a liner. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.
- Exact paper grade and actual backing, if any
- Grain, face and register marks
- CAD contour, pitch and smallest features
- Die, anvil, feed and waste-path drawings
- Installed die and holder dimensions
- Numbered good and rejected parts with offcuts
- Bridge, outline, depth and crease limits
- Trial count, downstream bonding and quantity

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a knife be chosen from the term gypsum-board facing paper alone?
No. Confirm the supplied grade, installed equipment, original tool and approved samples.
Is die cutting standard for facing-paper rolls?
No. Confirm that the installed line actually makes shaped pieces.
Should the die kiss-cut a liner?
Only if the supplied stack and drawing identify a backing to retain.
