Gypsum Faced Paper Transverse Cross Cutting Blades
Cross cutting releases defined facing-paper lengths across the web rather than making narrower rolls. Number consecutive sheets, mark grain and intended face, and measure physical feed against released length. Compare the end immediately after cut with its state after transfer so a handling crease is not blamed on the knife.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Actual supplied workpiece
Confirm the actual facing-paper grade, basis weight, grain direction, surface treatment and supplied roll condition. USG describes paper used on gypsum panels; this conversion guide concerns the paper before it is bonded to a gypsum core, not cutting finished board.
Installed cutting setup
Record unwind direction, feed index, clamp or hold-down, counter-surface and sheet discharge.
Cut output and inspection stage
Measure consecutive lengths and diagonals; inspect both transverse ends and faces before stacking.
Transverse Cross Cutting process boundary
Do not infer a bituminous layer, reinforcement scrim, adhesive or release liner from the term gypsum facing paper. A coated grade must be identified from its supplier sheet.
Transverse Cross Cutting setup checkpoint
Compare marked accepted and rejected samples from the same supplied grade, machine and inspection stage.
Transverse Cross Cutting acceptance checkpoint
Approve knife geometry only from the original blade, holder drawing and controlled sample trial.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure successive released lengths and diagonals
- Inspect both ends for hanging fibers and complete separation
- Check intended face and grain marks on sampled sheets
- Compare creases and dimensions before and after transfer
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Lengths drift while both ends remain separated
Measure actual feed travel and clamp slip before changing blade geometry.
Fibers hang at the last point of the stroke
Inspect exit-side support and counter-surface at that location.
Sheets are square at cutoff but crease in a stack
Compare numbered blanks before and after transfer.
A later material lot cuts differently
Compare actual grade, surface or facing, incoming condition and recovery before assigning the difference to edge fiber pull, dust or surface scuff.
gypsum-board facing paper Transverse Cross Cutting Diagnostic
Check material identity, feed and support, blade contact and post-cut handling in that order; do not infer a standard replacement from the workpiece name.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

- Inspect both ends for hanging fibers and complete separation
- Check intended face and grain marks on sampled sheets
- Compare creases and dimensions before and after transfer
Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Supported straight cutoff | Only if the installed line restrains paper on both sides. | Verify stroke, holder and counter-edge drawing. |
| Timed rotary cutoff | Only where the existing continuous-feed line uses synchronized cutoff. | Verify repeat timing and consecutive sheets. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a knife be chosen from the term gypsum-board facing paper alone?
No. Confirm the supplied grade, installed equipment, original tool and approved samples.
Can an intact end prove length accuracy?
No. Check actual feed and released length independently.
Why inspect before stacking?
It separates cut damage from transfer damage.
