Carbon Non-Crimp Fabric Cut To Size Blades

A carbon NCF blank must keep its specified fiber-axis orientation as well as its dimensions. Number consecutive blanks and mark the physical feed datum, stitch direction and cut ends. Compare actual advance with released length, squareness and whether stitches or tows pull free during pickup.

Where This Cutting Application Appears

Supplied material and orientation

Confirm the supplied carbon NCF architecture, fiber axes, stitch construction, ply count, width and incoming edge. It is a stitched reinforcement fabric, not an already cured laminate or honeycomb core.

Installed cutting setup

Record supplied roll or sheet state, indexing datum, hold-down across all plies and the installed cross-cut motion.

Output and downstream handling

Measure released blanks and inspect cross-cut stitch ends, ply alignment and orientation after one defined transfer.

Cut To Size process boundary

This guide covers cut to size of carbon non-crimp fabric; it does not establish a universal blade format, machine setting or material performance claim.

Cut To Size setup checkpoint

Mark fiber axes and stitch lines on each trial sample. Separate incoming stitch or tow damage from damage first observed at the cutter and after fabric handling.

Cut To Size acceptance checkpoint

Compare direction-marked good and rejected material under the same measurement and handling sequence.

Define the Required Cut Result

  • Meet approved blank dimensions after release
  • Hold required fiber-axis orientation
  • Limit loose tow and stitch ends at cross-cuts
  • Keep stacked plies aligned during transfer

Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife

Length varies while edge appearance is steady

Compare physical feed travel, clamp slip and relaxed measurement.

Only the exit side loses stitches

Inspect bottom support and end-of-stroke contact across the ply stack.

Blanks skew after pickup

Compare on-fixture and post-transfer diagonals and fiber-axis marks.

Incoming material differs from the trial lot

Check the supplied grade, construction and incoming defects before attributing a changed result to the cutter.

Carbon NCF Cut To Size Diagnostic

Separate incoming construction, fixture support, blade contact and post-cut handling before selecting a replacement for cut to size.

Length varies while edge appearance is steady

Compare physical feed travel, clamp slip and relaxed measurement.

Only the exit side loses stitches

Inspect bottom support and end-of-stroke contact across the ply stack.

Blanks skew after pickup

Compare on-fixture and post-transfer diagonals and fiber-axis marks.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial

Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

  • Measure consecutive released lengths and diagonals
  • Check fiber-axis marks against the blank drawing
  • Count loose stitch and tow ends at both cross-cuts
  • Compare ply alignment after the specified pickup and stack step

Knife Forms That May Be Considered

Possible knife formWhen it may be consideredWhat must be confirmed
Supported straight cross-cut bladeWhere the existing fixture restrains all plies either side of a transverse cut.Confirm stroke, counter-surface and holder drawing.
Synchronized rotary cutoffOnly if the installed continuous-feed line uses rotary cutoff.Confirm timing, ply support and end condition from numbered samples.

Information to Send for Technical Review

You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.

  • NCF grade, fiber axes, ply count and stitch type
  • Supply width, roll or sheet state and incoming defects
  • Blank drawing, datum and relaxed tolerances
  • Feed, restraint and support drawings
  • Installed blade, counter-surface and holder drawings
  • Numbered accepted and rejected blanks with direction marks
  • End-fray and ply-shift inspection limits
  • Trial sequence, kit format and required quantity

Related Material Cutting and Service Pages

Questions About This Cutting Application

Can a blade be selected from the term carbon non-crimp fabric alone?

No. Check the supplied grade, actual machine interface, drawing and approved samples before specifying a component.

Does a clean end prove the length is correct?

No. Verify physical feed and released dimensions separately.

Why mark fiber axes?

The approved layup may require a specific orientation that a rectangular size alone does not show.

Can a single blank reveal feed drift?

Use consecutive numbered blanks under the same settings.

Public references and scope

These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim. Confirm the actual grade, machine setup and required cut with a drawing or sample.
