Battery Pouch Scrap Granulating Blades
Use granulating for a defined downstream size-reduction stage after the facility has approved the material for that machine. State whether the feed is clean pouch laminate or safely prepared battery-derived material and name the separation step that follows.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied material and process stage
Classify the feed before any cutting review: clean dry aluminium/polymer pouch-laminate manufacturing trim is not the same as a rejected, damaged, charged or electrolyte-bearing cell. Record chemistry, state of charge, electrolyte status, pouch contents, contamination and the recycler-approved fire, gas, dust and emergency controls. EPA notes that a pouch cell can contain electrodes, separator and electrolyte inside aluminium/polymer packaging and that batteries are discharged or otherwise managed to prevent fires before shredding; this does not establish a customer safety procedure or a MEIRENTE tool.
Installed process checkpoint
Record incoming size, chemistry and prior treatment, atmosphere and monitoring, rotor and bed knives, clearance, screen, feed rate, recirculation and discharge separation.
Output and inspection stage
Measure retained size fractions, oversize and fines; inspect film wrapping, aluminium or copper liberation, screen loading, dust and temperature or gas events.
Granulating process boundary
Confirm that the customer operation, feed condition and approved drawing match this process before reviewing a replacement tool.
Granulating setup checkpoint
Record the installed interface, feed controls, material condition and downstream handoff before a controlled trial.
Granulating acceptance checkpoint
Use customer-approved dimensions, safety controls and observable defect limits on labelled samples from the same feed and machine settings.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Apply approved safety, atmosphere and stop criteria throughout the trial
- Report the full output-size distribution rather than one nominal size
- Record wrapping, oversize, fines, liberated metals and screen loading separately
- Evaluate downstream separation on a labelled sample from the same run
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Flexible film wraps while metallic fragments recirculate
Review feed size and composition, rotor/bed-knife clearance, screen, recirculation and discharge.
Fines rise without improving the required separation
Compare cutter condition, screen, residence time and the actual downstream separation target.
Heat, gas or deposit behaviour changes by lot
Stop under the site procedure and compare chemistry, electrolyte status, moisture, contamination and prior treatment.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing granulator rotor and bed-knife arrangement | For the exact machine after the facility approves the feed. | Confirm seats, knife count, clearance, screen, torque limits, containment and cleaning. |
| Existing secondary shear stage | Only where the documented process uses shearing before final screening. | Confirm feed class, cutter geometry, counter-tool, guarding and discharge. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.
- Feed classification: clean pouch-laminate trim, rejected empty pouch, complete cell, module-derived material or another documented stream
- Cell chemistry, state of charge, electrolyte status, moisture, contamination and prior treatment
- Approved site safety procedure, atmosphere, temperature, gas, dust and fire monitoring plus emergency isolation
- Feed dimensions, bulk density, metal content, foreign-material controls and maximum piece size
- Required process stage, target output distribution, fines limit and downstream separation step; process under review: granulating
- Existing rotor, bed knife, screen, holder, shaft and machine-interface drawings
- Current tool plus labelled feed and output samples only where the facility approves safe sampling
- Trial quantity, inspection method, cleaning or containment plan and annual demand

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a blade form be selected from the term “battery pouch scrap” alone?
No. Confirm the exact feed construction, process stage, installed interface, current tool and accepted and rejected samples.
Is granulating the same as first-stage shredding?
No. It is a later, screen- or target-size-controlled operation.
Does smaller output always improve recycling?
No. Fines, heat and separation behaviour must be judged against the process target.
Public references and scope
These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim. Confirm the actual grade, machine setup and required cut with a drawing or sample.
