Stretch Hood Film Cut To Size Blades
Cut-to-size applies to a documented web, collapsed tube or gusseted-tube stage before the sealing and hood-making sequence. Record cutoff length, tube orientation, gussets, seal clearance and relaxed condition; do not describe cutting a hood already stretched over a pallet.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied material and process stage
Define the film-conversion stage rather than treating stretch hood as a generic flat sheet. Record whether the supplied material is an extrusion web, tubular bubble, collapsed layflat tube, gusseted tubing, converted hood before pallet application or a finished hood already on a load. Declare the supplier film structure and resin family without guessing, mono- or multilayer construction, layer order if documented, thickness, machine and transverse directions, stretch direction, tube circumference or layflat, gussets, seals, print, additives or surface treatment only when supplied. Dow describes stretch hood as multilayer film for pallet loads and ExxonMobil describes it as a palletization film; neither source identifies the customer formulation, cutting process, load performance or a MEIRENTE tool.
Installed process checkpoint
Record extrusion and machine direction, transverse and stretch direction, tube or layflat orientation, gusset folds, inside and outside surfaces, seal position, print register and pallet-application datum, incoming form, feed datum, clamp or hold-down, longitudinal and transverse support, cutter motion, counter-surface and stacking or transfer path.
Output and inspection stage
Measure consecutive length, width and diagonals or documented tube datum; inspect cut ends for edge nick, tear initiation or propagation, neck-in, curl, blocking, layer split, gusset damage, seal-zone contamination, static, print misregistration and surface marking, then compare numbered pieces before and after release and transfer.
Cut-to-Size process boundary
Confirm the supplied form, complete construction, installed motion and approved drawing before reviewing a replacement tool.
Cut-to-Size setup checkpoint
Record material direction, protected faces, support or restraint, installed interface and downstream handling before a controlled trial.
Cut-to-Size acceptance checkpoint
Use customer-approved dimensions and observable defect limits on labelled samples from the same grade, lot and process stage.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure consecutive length, width and end squareness or approved tube datum
- Inspect both cut ends and corners for edge nick, tear initiation or propagation, neck-in, curl, blocking, layer split, gusset damage, seal-zone contamination, static, print misregistration and surface marking
- Verify extrusion and machine direction, transverse and stretch direction, tube or layflat orientation, gusset folds, inside and outside surfaces, seal position, print register and pallet-application datum
- Compare registration, dimensions and surface condition before and after release and transfer
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Length or end squareness changes while separation is complete
Review feed registration, clamp or nip slip, part deformation, cutter timing, support and the approved measurement condition.
The trailing end or one corner shows edge nick, tear initiation or propagation, neck-in, curl, blocking, layer split, gusset damage, seal-zone contamination, static, print misregistration and surface marking
Compare final-stroke support, cutter motion, direction, retained face and counter-surface on that side.
Cutoff length is correct but gussets, seal zone or print register moves
Check tube tracking, ply slip, gusset restraint, sensor datum, tension release and downstream sealing reference.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing supported straight cutoff | For an installed line that restrains the declared stretch hood film form through full separation. | Confirm stroke, holder, clamp or nip, support, counter-surface and consecutive cut-end samples. |
| Existing synchronized or traveling cutoff | Only where feed position and cutter motion are controlled for the actual supplied form. | Confirm travel, timing, datum, support, protected-face contact and released parts. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.
- Supplier grade and supplied stage: extrusion web, tubular bubble, collapsed layflat tube, gusseted tubing, converted hood before application or another documented intermediate
- Declared resin family and mono- or multilayer construction, layer order if documented, thickness and accepted gauge variation without inferring a formulation
- Machine, transverse and stretch directions, inside and outside surfaces, tube circumference or layflat, gusset dimensions, seal position and print register
- Slip, antiblock, cling, surface treatment, recycled content or other additives only when supplier-documented, plus storage and approved conditioning state
- Target width, cutoff length or approved CAD feature, datum, seal clearance and accepted nick, tear, curl, blocking, static, layer and surface limits
- Existing unwind or tube feed, guide, tension, nip or hold-down, blade, holder, counter-surface, discharge and scrap-path drawings plus the current tool
- Labelled accepted and rejected samples from the same film grade, extrusion or conversion lot, tube orientation and conditioning state
- Trial quantity, downstream sealing, hood making and pallet-application validation owner, cleaning, packing and annual demand

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a blade form be selected from the term “stretch hood film” alone?
No. Confirm the supplied process stage, complete construction, material direction, protected faces, installed interface and actual samples.
Why must the supplied stage be declared?
An extrusion web, collapsed tube, gusseted tubing, converted hood and hood already applied to a pallet are different process states.
Does a clean cut approve the finished package?
No. Sealing, hood making, stretching, pallet application, load stability and transport validation remain separate.
Public references and scope
These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim.
