Molded Fiber Tray Web Sheet Slitting Blades
Sheet slitting is relevant only when the supplied molded-fiber intermediate is still a supported flat web or sheet. Confirm that the cut occurs before three-dimensional forming; a formed tray array requires its actual punch or trim operation instead.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied material and process stage
Define the actual fiber-packaging stage before selecting a cutter. The incoming material may be a flat air-laid dry-fiber web before forming, a connected formed array awaiting punching or flange trimming, or discrete wet-molded trays after pressing and drying. Do not apply flat-web slitting assumptions to a formed tray. PulPac describes fibers air-laid into a web and then formed with heat and pressure; Kiefel describes water-fiber forming, pre-pressing, hot-pressing and precise inline trimming or punching. These examples show different process routes and do not identify the customer furnish, barrier, geometry, food-contact status or tool interface.
Installed process checkpoint
Map declared pulp or fiber furnish, dry or wet process stage, web feed direction, basis weight and moisture state, tissue or barrier layers, mold and cavity pitch, formed depth, flange, bridges, trim line and protected product face, incoming-edge references, guiding, tension or hold-down, cutter stations, support, counter-surface, discharge and narrow-scrap path.
Output and inspection stage
Measure every retained width in the approved state; inspect both retained edges for fiber pull-out, dust, ragged flange, local delamination, crushed wall or rim, cracks, incomplete separation, bridge tear, tray distortion and stack instability, then verify register, face condition and roll or stack transfer.
Sheet-Slitting process boundary
Confirm the supplied form, complete construction, installed motion and approved drawing before reviewing a replacement tool.
Sheet-Slitting setup checkpoint
Record material direction, protected faces, support or nest, installed interface and downstream handling before a controlled trial.
Sheet-Slitting acceptance checkpoint
Use customer-approved dimensions and observable defect limits on labelled samples from the same grade, lot and process state.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure every retained width in the approved state
- Inspect both retained edges for fiber pull-out, dust, ragged flange, local delamination, crushed wall or rim, cracks, incomplete separation, bridge tear, tray distortion and stack instability
- Verify declared pulp or fiber furnish, dry or wet process stage, web feed direction, basis weight and moisture state, tissue or barrier layers, mold and cavity pitch, formed depth, flange, bridges, trim line and protected product face
- Compare register, face condition and roll or stack handling before and after transfer
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Retained widths drift across the parent web
Separate source-edge movement, guiding, cutter-station position, side load, web tension and released measurement-state change.
One retained edge shows fiber pull-out, dust, ragged flange, local delamination, crushed wall or rim, cracks, incomplete separation, bridge tear, tray distortion and stack instability
Map cut direction, face orientation, local support and the complete layer or fiber state at the defect.
The flat web loses basis-weight uniformity or tears before forming
Compare incoming web formation, moisture, barrier layer, support, dust removal and downstream forming pickup.
Molded Fiber Tray Web Sheet-Slitting Diagnostic

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing compatible circular or shear slitting station | Only where the holder, counter-surface and side-load geometry match the complete molded fiber tray web construction. | Confirm overlap or exposure, support, retained-edge direction, protected-face contact and actual samples. |
| Existing guided straight or stationary slitting arrangement | Only where the installed line safely supports the declared flat web or sheet through separation. | Confirm holder, guidance, support, exposure, web path, dust or coating control and both retained edges. |

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a blade form be selected from the term “molded fiber tray web” alone?
No. Confirm the supplied process stage, complete construction, material direction, protected faces, installed interface and actual samples.
Why must the process stage be declared?
A flat dry-fiber web, connected formed array and discrete wet-molded tray require different support, datums, cutting motions and acceptance checks.
Does a clean cut approve the finished application?
No. Forming, barrier, hygiene, food-contact, stacking and package validation remain separate.
