Furniture Protective Felt Profile Cutting Blades
Profile cutting applies only when an approved CAD file defines a real furniture protective felt component. Record geometry, datum, supplied construction and cut-depth requirement; do not infer a pad shape, furniture part or waste matrix from the material name.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied material and process stage
Define the supplied felt intermediate before discussing a cutter. Record fibre composition and felt-forming method only when documented, basis weight, thickness, density or compression state, face and machine direction, and whether the material is an uncoated roll or sheet, an adhesive-backed web, or a construction with release liner or other backing. 3M publishes furniture felt-pad examples in both self-stick pad and easy-cut roll forms, but those examples do not establish the customer construction, surface-protection result, bond performance, service life, certification or a MEIRENTE tool.
Installed process checkpoint
Record CAD revision, radii, notches, bridges if any, fibre or machine direction if documented, felt face, adhesive side, liner side and approved pad orientation, backing or liner, hold-down, support, blade path, start/stop strategy and part-removal path.
Output and inspection stage
Measure critical CAD geometry in the approved state; inspect corners, notches and start/stop zones for fibre pull-out, fuzzy or compacted edge, adhesive smear, liner lift or offset, backing separation and surface marking, then compare the retained part before and after removal.
Profile-Cutting process boundary
Confirm the supplied form, complete construction, installed motion and approved drawing before reviewing a replacement tool.
Profile-Cutting setup checkpoint
Record material direction, protected faces, support, installed interface and downstream handling before a controlled trial.
Profile-Cutting acceptance checkpoint
Use customer-approved dimensions and observable defect limits on labelled samples from the same style, lot and conditioning state.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure critical CAD geometry in the approved relaxed or conditioned state
- Inspect corners, notches and start/stop zones for fibre pull-out, fuzzy or compacted edge, adhesive smear, liner lift or offset, backing separation and surface marking
- Verify register to fibre or machine direction if documented, felt face, adhesive side, liner side and approved pad orientation
- Compare the retained part and any backing or liner before and after removal
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
A radius or notch falls outside the CAD envelope
Separate program or datum error from local material movement, blade deflection, support and measurement-state change.
A closed contour still shows fibre pull-out, fuzzy or compacted edge, adhesive smear, liner lift or offset, backing separation and surface marking
Review cut sequence, material direction, local support, face contact, backing or liner and retained-part restraint.
The contour shifts from a grain, joint, liner or furniture-layout datum
Check incoming registration, feed movement and program origin independently from cut completeness.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing reciprocating or oscillating profile knife | Only where the installed table and hold-down support the declared furniture protective felt. | Confirm blade guidance, stroke, support, corner path, cut depth and actual samples. |
| Existing rule, punch or other documented profile tool | Only where the current machine, counter-surface and approved geometry require that interface. | Confirm rule or punch drawing, joint, clearances, ejection, backing or liner condition and retained-part release. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.
- Supplier style and supplied form: uncoated felt roll or sheet, adhesive-backed web, lined construction, prelaminated stock or another documented intermediate
- Fibre composition and felt-forming method if documented, basis weight, thickness, density or compression state, colour, face and material direction
- Adhesive, backing and release-liner construction only when present, including layer order, liner split, protected face and contamination limits
- Incoming roll or sheet dimensions, roll build, splice map, edge condition, storage and approved relaxed measurement state
- Target width, length or CAD profile, datum, cut-through or kiss-cut requirement, and accepted fibre, adhesive, liner and surface limits
- Existing feed, guide, hold-down, support, blade, holder, counter-surface, discharge and waste-path drawings plus the current tool
- Labelled accepted and rejected samples from the same style, lot, backing and conditioning state
- Trial quantity, downstream pad conversion or installation validation owner, cleaning, packing and annual demand

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a blade form be selected from the term “furniture protective felt” alone?
No. Confirm the supplied form, complete construction, material direction, protected faces, installed interface and actual samples.
Why record the material face and direction?
Fibre direction, adhesive or liner orientation and face contact can change edge appearance, tracking and release.
Does a clean cut approve the finished furniture application?
No. Bonding, installation, appearance, surface protection, durability and final-product validation remain separate.
Public references and scope
These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim. Confirm the actual grade, machine setup and required cut with a drawing or sample.
