Flame-Retardant Curtain Fabric Rotary Die Cutting Blades
Rotary die cutting applies only when an approved drawing defines a repeated flame-retardant curtain fabric part, opening or feature. Record warp/weft or course/wale direction, pattern repeat, face and nap if present, stretch state and faces; do not infer a waste matrix, carrier or functional contour from the material name.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied material and process stage
“Flame-retardant curtain fabric” is a performance description, not one cutting construction. Declare fibre composition, woven or knitted structure, weight, thickness, yarn and fabric direction, inherent flame-retardant polymer or applied treatment, coating, backing, print, face, finish and test status. Trevira distinguishes inherent flame resistance from surface treatment, and ACT notes that flammability is measured against specified ignition tests. Neither source proves that a customer roll or a cut part retains a classification, and cutting trials cannot certify flame performance.
Installed process checkpoint
Record CAD profile, radii, pitch, register datum, warp/weft or course/wale direction, pattern repeat, face and nap if present, declared layers, full or partial cut requirement, support, die/anvil interface and waste-removal path.
Output and inspection stage
Measure geometry, pitch and register; inspect bridges, corner distortion, yarn pull-out, fray or laddering, coating or treatment residue, pattern distortion and face marking, carrier penetration if present, retained-part support and waste release.
Rotary Die-Cutting process boundary
Confirm construction, direction, installed motion and approved drawing before reviewing a replacement tool.
Rotary Die-Cutting setup checkpoint
Record conditioning, relaxed measurement, protected faces, contamination limits and downstream handling before a controlled trial.
Rotary Die-Cutting acceptance checkpoint
Use customer-approved dimensions and observable defect limits on labelled samples from the same grade or style, lot and settings.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure geometry, pitch and critical features from the approved datum
- Verify register to warp/weft or course/wale direction, pattern repeat, face and nap if present or declared pattern
- Inspect retained edges and corners for yarn pull-out, fray or laddering, coating or treatment residue, pattern distortion and face marking
- Compare part shape, debris and surface before and after waste removal
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
A bridge repeats at one corner or narrow feature
Compare local die contact, feature radius, support and material variation.
A complete feature shows yarn pull-out, fray or laddering, coating or treatment residue, pattern distortion and face marking
Review direction, local compression, release force and retained-part support.
Geometry drifts from pattern, fibre orientation or another approved datum
Check feed advance, lateral tracking, relaxation and die phase before changing penetration.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing full-cut rotary profile die | For an installed station separating the complete declared flame-retardant curtain fabric construction. | Confirm CAD, die seat, anvil, depth, direction and critical-feature samples. |
| Existing controlled-depth rotary die | Only if a verified carrier or backing must remain by drawing. | Confirm layer-by-layer depth, register, runout and protected-face clearance. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.

- Woven, knitted or layered construction, yarn direction, weight, thickness range, stretch, pattern repeat and nap direction if present
- Coating, backing, print, dye, finish or treatment state, face and back, protected surface and any lot-specific test documentation
- Parent width, core, roll diameter, unwind face, tension, splice map, storage and approved conditioning state
- Target width, length or CAD profile, datum and accepted fray, pull-out, laddering, residue, pattern and surface-mark limits

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a blade form be selected from the term “flame-retardant curtain fabric” alone?
No. Confirm construction, direction, finish or binder, protected faces, installed interface and accepted and rejected samples.
Why record material direction and face before a trial?
The warp/weft or course/wale direction, pattern repeat, face and nap if present can change support, dimensional recovery, edge behavior and defect appearance.
Does a clean cut approve the finished product?
No. Flame testing, sewing, installation and finished-product certification remain separate.
