Film Splicing Tape Roll Slitting Blades
Roll slitting converts film-splicing tape stock into narrower tape rolls; it does not cut the film web being joined. Map adhesive sides, liner or release system, tabs, split features, colour or print and machine direction before positioning the stations.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied material and process stage
First distinguish the tape used to make a film-web splice from the film web being joined. Confirm single- or double-sided construction, backing, adhesive, liner, tab or release feature, colour or print, machine direction and intended splice geometry. 3M and tesa publish polyester-backed and integrated film-splicing examples, but those examples do not identify the customer grade or prove speed, adhesion, web compatibility or a MEIRENTE tool.
Installed process checkpoint
Record construction, parent-roll map, guide datum, feature register, blade stations, support, tension, rewind and narrow-trim extraction.
Output and inspection stage
Measure daughter-roll width and feature clearance; inspect backing edge, adhesive transfer, liner damage, feature continuity, telescoping and blocking after rewind.
Roll Slitting process boundary
Confirm the complete material stack, installed operation and approved drawing before reviewing a replacement tool.
Roll Slitting setup checkpoint
Record protected faces, registered features, installed interface and downstream handling before a controlled trial.
Roll Slitting acceptance checkpoint
Use customer-approved dimensions and observable defect limits on labelled samples from the same grade, lot and settings.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure every daughter-roll width at approved positions
- Inspect backing and adhesive edges separately
- Verify clearance to liners, tabs, print or release features
- Compare at-cut condition with rewind build, blocking and feature alignment
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Width varies while both edges separate cleanly
Compare guide datum, tension, relaxed width, station spacing and core alignment.
Adhesive strings from one side of a double-sided or lined construction
Map adhesive faces, liner split, dwell, temperature and exact parent-roll position.
A release strip or printed splice datum is clipped
Stop and compare parent-roll feature map, lateral tracking and knife position.

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing matched shear-slitting pair | Only where the installed station supports the complete splicing-tape stack. | Confirm overlap, side load, holder, registered features and both retained edges. |
| Existing guided fixed slitter | Only where exposure and support suit the actual backing, adhesive and liner. | Confirm protected-face contact, liner penetration, feature clearance and rewind behavior. |
Information to Send for Technical Review
You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.
- Supplier grade and whether the supplied object is single-sided tape, double-sided tape, integrated splice preparation or another documented construction
- Backing material and thickness, adhesive side or sides, liner or release system, tabs, split liners, colour, print and machine direction
- Parent-roll width, core, diameter, unwind face, winding direction, storage and approved conditioning state
- Intended butt, overlap, flying, static, tabbing or other customer-defined splice geometry without assuming process speed
- Target width, length or CAD feature plus datum and limits for edge, adhesive, liner, particles and registered release features
- Existing unwind, guide, support, holder, blade, anvil, rewind, transfer and waste-path drawings plus the current tool
- Labelled accepted and rejected samples from the same grade, lot and converting stage
- Trial quantity, downstream splice-test owner, cleaning and packing protocol, and annual demand

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a blade form be selected from the term “film-splicing tape converting stock” alone?
No. Confirm grade, complete layer stack, process stage, protected faces, installed interface and accepted and rejected samples.
Does a clean narrow roll prove a flying splice will succeed?
No. Splice geometry, film surface, line conditions and customer testing remain separate.
Is film-splicing tape the same workpiece as film web?
No. This page addresses converting the tape used at a splice.

These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim.
