Ceramic Green Tape Sheet Slitting Blades

Sheet slitting divides unfired ceramic green tape into narrower strips or lanes. Establish whether the tape remains on its carrier and whether it contains printed or punched features. Width is judged in the approved supported or released condition, not after sintering.

Updated October 19, 2026

Ceramic Green Tape before and after sheet slitting with accepted and defect edge references
Illustrative ceramic green tape only; not a fired substrate, MEIRENTE production trial, approved sample, compatibility statement or knife-performance claim.

Unfired ceramic green-tape slitting: control strip width, carrier release and retained-edge drag without applying fired-ceramic defect logic.

Where This Cutting Application Appears

Supplied material and process stage

These pages cover dried but unfired ceramic tape in a declared conversion stage, not a fired ceramic substrate. Confirm ceramic chemistry, powder loading, binder/plasticizer system, residual solvent or moisture condition, thickness, carrier film, release state, printed or punched features, laminate state and handling direction. Kyocera shows tape casting before via punching, printing, lamination, cutting and co-firing; Forschungszentrum Jülich notes that green tape is cast on a carrier and later peeled. Those examples do not define the customer tape or a MEIRENTE tool.

Installed process checkpoint

Record casting direction, protected face, carrier and release state, edge guide, tape support, blade stations, slit datum, web tension and daughter-strip handling.

Output and inspection stage

Measure strip width and edge path in the approved state; inspect powder drag, binder smear, edge lift, stretching, carrier scoring, face contact and winding or stacking damage.

Sheet Slitting process boundary

Confirm the unfired material state, carrier or laminate stack, actual machine operation and approved drawing before reviewing a replacement tool.

Sheet Slitting setup checkpoint

Record formulation, conditioning, protected face, installed interface and downstream handling before a controlled trial.

Sheet Slitting acceptance checkpoint

Use customer-approved green-stage dimensions and observable defect limits on labelled samples from the same material lot and settings.

Define the Required Cut Result

  • Measure every strip width in the approved supported or released state
  • Inspect both retained edges for drag, smear, lift and stretch
  • Verify carrier condition and protected-face contact separately
  • Compare strip handling and winding or stacking against labelled samples

Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife

Strip width changes while both edges appear separated

Compare guide datum, tape stretch, carrier tracking and slit-station position.

The green edge drags or smears on one side

Review local support, material condition, blade contact and casting direction.

The tape releases cleanly but the carrier is scored

Separate green-sheet penetration from carrier-protection depth and anvil condition.

ceramic green tape Sheet Slitting Diagnostic

Sheet slitting divides unfired ceramic green tape into narrower strips or lanes. Establish whether the tape remains on its carrier and whether it contains printed or punched features. Width is judged in the approved supported or released condition, not after sintering.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial

Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

  • Measure every strip width in the approved supported or released state
  • Inspect both retained edges for drag, smear, lift and stretch
  • Verify carrier condition and protected-face contact separately
  • Compare strip handling and winding or stacking against labelled samples

Knife Forms That May Be Considered

Possible knife formWhen it may be consideredWhat must be confirmed
Existing supported shear-slitting pairOnly where the installed station supports the actual tape and carrier construction.Confirm pair geometry, side load, holder, anvil and both-edge samples.
Existing guided fixed slitterOnly if the web path supports a stationary edge through the declared green body.Confirm exposure, holder, face contact, carrier depth and extraction.

Information to Send for Technical Review

You do not need to know the exact blade name. Send the available workpiece, machine, current-knife and cut-result information so the application can be reviewed against a drawing or sample.

  • Ceramic chemistry, supplier grade and whether the tape is unfired, printed, punched, laminated or otherwise processed
  • Powder, binder/plasticizer and residual solvent or moisture information permitted by the supplier
  • Tape thickness, width, grain or casting direction, green density range and conditioning method
  • Carrier film material, release state, supported or peeled condition and protected face
  • Printed conductors, vias, alignment marks, laminate stack and every no-contact zone
  • Target width, size or CAD profile, datum and accepted drag, smear, lift, crack, stretch and contamination limits
  • Existing feed, guide, hold-down, support, holder, blade, anvil and extraction drawings plus the current tool
  • Labelled accepted and rejected samples, trial quantity, downstream inspection ownership, packing and annual demand

Related Unfired-Ceramic Conversion and Custom Knife Pages

  • Review a custom knife from the original tool and machine-interface drawing
  • Compare another documented operation for the same unfired material
  • Compare another documented operation for the same unfired material
  • Send labelled green-sheet samples, drawings and measurable acceptance limits for review

Questions About This Cutting Application

Can a blade form be selected from the term “ceramic green tape” alone?

No. Confirm formulation, unfired process stage, carrier or laminate stack, protected features, installed interface and accepted and rejected samples.

Is green-tape slitting the same as dicing a fired ceramic substrate?

No. The material state, support and defect mechanisms are different.

Can fired-part dimensions be used as the slit acceptance limit?

Not without the customer’s shrinkage model and process ownership.

Public references and scope

These public sources provide material, cutting-method or safety context for this guide. Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim. Confirm the actual grade, machine setup and required cut with a drawing or sample.
