Braided Wire Sleeving Notching And Cutoff Blades
Use notching and cutoff only when an approved assembly drawing defines a real relief, window or combined end feature in braid or a braid-covered assembly. Do not invent a notch for plain sleeve pieces and do not treat this page as universal shield termination guidance.

Where This Cutting Application Appears
Supplied material and process stage
Identify the actual braid before reviewing a cutter: polymer expandable sleeving, metallic shielding braid, braid on a removable former, or sleeving already installed over a harness are different cutting objects. Record strand material, coating or plating, braid angle and coverage, supplied and expanded diameters, wall build, axial tension, any former or inner harness and the permitted end condition. TE lists polyester braid-wall sleeving in several size ranges and separately lists metallic cable braids; these examples do not define the customer sleeve or a MEIRENTE tool.
Installed process checkpoint
Record feature drawing, braid and inner construction, support state, notch datum and depth, cutoff length, sequence, registration, restraint, chip or strand removal and protected zones.
Output and inspection stage
Measure feature geometry, position and final length; inspect corner unbraiding, loose strands, polymer fusion or metallic burrs, inner-object contact and debris.
Notching And Cutoff process boundary
Confirm that the supplied construction, installed machine operation and approved drawing match this process before reviewing a replacement tool.
Notching And Cutoff setup checkpoint
Record material state, protected components, installed interface and downstream handling before a controlled trial.
Notching And Cutoff acceptance checkpoint
Use customer-approved dimensions and observable defect limits on labelled samples from the same lot and machine settings.
Define the Required Cut Result
- Measure feature geometry and position in the approved support state
- Measure final length separately from feature register
- Inspect retained strand paths, corners and loose debris
- Verify clearance from the former, cable, harness and connectors
Problems to Diagnose Before Changing the Knife
Feature position moves as the braid expands
Compare diameter, axial tension, registration, restraint and the drawing datum.
A notch corner releases adjacent strands
Review retained strand paths, corner geometry, support and tool sequence.
The former, cable or harness is contacted
Stop and verify depth, construction variation, support and protected clearance.

Acceptance Criteria for a Controlled Trial
Agree how the trial will be judged before changing the knife or machine setting.

Knife Forms That May Be Considered
| Possible knife form | When it may be considered | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Existing registered punch-and-cutoff set | For a restrained braid process already using the approved feature. | Confirm tool seats, sequence, counter-surface, registration and strand ejection. |
| Existing controlled-depth profile or rotary feature cutter | Only where the machine locates and protects the declared inner object. | Confirm path, depth stop, runout, support and debris control. |

Questions About This Cutting Application
Can a blade form be selected from the term “braided wire sleeving” alone?
No. Confirm the supplied construction, actual process stage, protected components, installed interface, current tool and accepted and rejected samples.
Does every braided sleeve require a notch?
No. Only a real approved assembly feature establishes this operation.
Can this page define a shield-braid termination?
No. Termination design and electrical acceptance remain customer-controlled.

Supplier pages describe their own materials or equipment; they do not establish a MEIRENTE blade specification or performance claim.
